March for Life 2012 – Parish Catechetical Resources to Support Life

23 Jan

Human life is sacred because from its beginning it involves the creative action of God and it remains for ever in a special relationship with the Creator, who is its sole end. God alone is the Lord of life from its beginning until its end: no one can under any circumstance claim for himself the right directly to destroy an innocent human being” (Catechism of the Catholic Church, paragraph 2258).

The Roman Catholic Church believes in a consistent life ethic where the sacred dignity of all persons is embraced and protected from the moment of conception until natural death.  This consistent life ethic connects to many issues that we as a culture are confronted with daily: euthanasia, respect for health, capital punishment, just war, assisted suicide, bodily integrity, and abortion.

The March for Life is an annual pro-life rally held in Washington D.C. protesting abortion and the 1973 United States Supreme Court ruling, Roe vs. Wade which legalized abortion.  The first March for Life was organized for organized and held on January 22, 1974.  The 2012 March for Life will be held on Monday, January 23, because Congress is not in session on weekends.

In solidarity with the Iowans for L.I.F.E./Diocesan pilgrims, please consider using one of the four resources below and/or the prayer for life.  It is our hope and prayer that our nation’s political leaders will have a conversion experience and ban abortion as well as uphold all life, from womb to tomb, so that there needn’t be a March for Life 2013 (the 40th anniversary of Roe vs. Wade).
