Sunday, Sunday, Sunday: The Twenty-Fourth Sunday in Ordinary Time

16 Sep

The Life Teen Podcast is attached.  Readings for the Twenty-Third Sunday in Ordinary Time: Is 50:5-9a; Ps 114:1-2, 3-4, 5-6, 8-9; Jas 2:14-18; Mk 8:27-35.

“Do you approach God in an either/or attitude rather than a both/and attitude when it comes to live our lives?  Resolution without prayer is not going to get us anything.  We need a both/and approach.  We have to have firm resolve, be humble, and steadfast and that is what happens when we are people of prayer.  In the Letter of James we have the famous passage about the importance of faith and works.  Actions follow beliefs.  Our works give living expression to our faith…our work shows that it is about God and not about us?  Faith without works is the same as resolve without prayer.  The Gospel shows us, in the person of Saint Peter, shows resolve and works without prayer.  Saint Peter loses perspective: thinking as humans think, not as God thinks.  It is about coming after God and following God all the way: both suffering AND following; both difficult AND wonderful; it includes death AND rising”  (Mark Hart)

This podcast is an excellent foundation for a weekly Bible study focused on the readings throughout the liturgical year.  These Bible studies can be at the parish, at a coffee shop or even on-line.
